He Is Coming is my favorite type of roguelike, the kind that never goes stale after just a handful of runs. Its design encourages true repetition, not out of necessity, but out of discovery. Every run invites experimentation with new items, builds, and strategies. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, two unexpected items might inspire a completely fresh, high-potential build that keeps you playing for hours.
The multiplayer component only elevates the experience, adding a competitive layer to the already addictive gameplay. At its core, this is a game that always makes you want to press “play again.”

Items Designed for Creativity
In He Is Coming, items aren’t meant to be used in isolation. Every piece of gear is crafted for synergy, encouraging creative combos. This is where the game stands out many roguelikes treat resetting your character as an end in itself, but here, every reset expands your knowledge of item interactions and strategic possibilities.
Over time, your understanding of what’s possible grows, putting this game among the best in the genre.
Simple but Effective Art Style
The art style is minimal, but it works perfectly. Many roguelikes could run on a spreadsheet, yet He Is Coming injects charm through pixel art designs that are simple but endearing. This isn’t a game that relies on flashy 3D visuals or massive VFX it’s about tight, satisfying gameplay, and that gameplay speaks volumes.

Two Distinct Game Modes
The base Forest Land mode focuses on stat stacking boosting life, damage, health, armor, and speed. Swamp Land, however, builds on what you’ve learned in Forest Land, offering a more varied and creative item pool. Swamp Land’s items allow for more complex and versatile builds, either stacking ailments to give to the enemy or yourself to be used by other items. he build variety for swampland makes it arguably the superior mode in my eyes.
Multiplayer and the Kingmaker Mode
In Kingmaker, multiplayer brings everything together. You gain access to items from all pools, enabling deeply complex builds to test against other players. Watching metas evolve over time is part of the fun.
Early on, speed stacking dominated hit the opponent first, stack multiple strikes, and win before they could react. This was followed by armor stacking, which countered speed by tanking the first hit.
Next came acid stacking, which shredded armor and opened opponents to lethal strikes. Players then experimented with bomb builds, using first-strike explosives to beat acid users. Finally, overheal builds emerged healing beyond max HP to instantly damage opponents, often before other effects could trigger.
This constantly shifting meta keeps matches fresh and encourages players to think outside the box.

A Peak Roguelike Experience
For its price, He Is Coming offers incredible value. Its short runs make it easy to jump in, experiment, and see how far your ideas can go. The joy of watching a concept come to life exactly as you envisioned it is unmatched.
It’s a rare roguelike with this level of build creativity a true dreamlike experience for fans of the genre.
Highly recommended.
