The Naked Gun – Parody Perfection

The New Naked Gun is parody perfection, a true return to the style of classic parodies from the ’80s and ’90s. Gone are the days of early-to-late-2000s “Scary Movie”-style junk fodder, films made simply to fill screen time in cinemas.

This is a passion project through and through, showing deep respect for the original material and a genuine love for the parody medium. I go to the cinema often, but not usually for comedies. Of all the comedies I’ve seen in the last decade, this is the first where I’ve heard the entire theater laughing out loud at multiple jokes in one screening.

Comedy That Hits Every Beat

The way the writers and director weave jokes seamlessly into the plot is pure perfection. Many gags land one after another sometimes six or seven within two minutes.

In the past, this rapid-fire approach often faltered, with many jokes missing the mark and stretching short scenes unnecessarily. Here, almost every joke works, creating momentum instead of dead air.

Modernized Without Losing the Essence

The film successfully captures the essence of the original series while modernizing it for today’s audiences. It avoids leaning solely on crude humor or obscure pop culture references that only a niche group would understand.

Standout Performances

The cast excels at maintaining a focused, serious demeanor while delivering objectively hilarious lines. Liam Neeson is a particular highlight his bone-dry delivery, sharpened by years of serious action roles, makes the absurd dialogue even funnier. The contrast parallel between his seriousness and the ridiculous situations is pure comedy gold.

Final Verdict

This movie was an absolute joy to watch. If you’re looking for a modern comedy that captures the spirit of classic spoof movies, this is it. It also sparks hope for a revival of the genre, alongside classics like Airplane!, the original Naked Gun, and Spaceballs.

Highly recommended.
